It was a really exciting experience to first record a Fazioli piano! I used two pairs of AB microphones, with one pair of omni mics for collecting the acoustic of space, and the other pair, cardio mics using close micing, to capture the nuances of the piano.

But, it was a little disappointing that I chose to use cardio mics for the piano’s close micing. I found it was not suitable for the sound of the F308 Fazioli piano. However, the consequence of mixing the two pairs was still well utilized for capturing the characteristics of the Fazioli piano. The most important part of this assignment was that it sparked my interesting in piano recording.
