This was my very first assignment in orchestra recording after I graduated. Although I had had some training in various types of stereo micing and hanging micing techniques for orchestra recording, this was still a new challenge because I had to complete the recording entirely on my own, with a two-hour time limit! In the interest of time, I decided to use only three pairs of microphone settings.

I chose AB microphone techniques, which I intended for returning the original sound of the live performance. The first pair was a wide AB-micing style using two omni-microphones in order to offer a clear image of the hall’s acoustics. The second pair was a narrow AB-micing style using wide-cardio microphones to manage more details. The third pair was also an AB microphone pair using two wide-cardio mics to capture the sound of the chorus.
